The Port of Beaumont is also a leading partner in downtown development.  The much talked about railroad relocation project will begin in 2009.  This relocation involves three leading railroad companies.  The relocation will allow for riverfront (Neches River) expansion as well as more cargo space for the Port of Beaumont, one of the nation’s leading military ports.  The price tag is $16 million

Beaumont Main Street will remain committed to a methodical downtown revitalization effort.  Emphasis will be placed on:

1. Downtown living in historic properties as well as appropriate new residential
    development.

3. The development of an appropriate garage for our growing business, entertainment
     and residential climate.

4. The ability to purchase endangered historic properties, complete emergencyrepairs
and secure an appropriate buyer for development.

5.  Recruitment and the clustering of needed retail/service businesses.

6.  Provide architectural, marketing and business assistance to property and
business owners within our target area.

7.  Planning and implementing quality promotions that not only encourage a
positive image of downtown, but promotions that mature as the downtown business,
professional, entertainment, residential and artistic communities grow.

8.  Protect and preserve our National Register District.
